Since the first time using the Nintendo Wii, the sensor that sits on top of our 42 inch Panasonic Plasma TV keeps falling down, the reason for this is the wire that runs from the sensor to the Nintendo Wii keeps getting tangled up with other wires. Now I am sure I could improve this with some cable tidies, but I thought why not take a look at one of the wireless sensor bars that are available and see just how good they are.

So we thought we would give the Nyko wireless sensor bar a hands-on review, you can see some different photos of this device on this page, but we did change the position of the sensor after taking the photos, its now under the television. You package comes with four AA batteries, an instruction manual, the sensor bar and it’s really easy to setup.

Although the sensor bar is still small, it’s nowhere near as small as the original Wii sensor and that’s because it needs space for batteries. The benefit of it being much more bulky is that the device is also more sturdy. You have to turn the sensor on manually and that’s not a problem, but when it was tested with Wii Fit, we kept getting a buzzing noise after using the balance board for a period of time because the sensor wanted to shut down to save power. This power saver mode is very annoying and should have had an option to set how long before it wants to shut down or done it on the quiet like the balance board does.

If you have a large room then this wireless version is ideal thanks to the 25F range and no need for wires, but be ready to stock a lot of AA batteries or have others recharged and ready. Look to pay up to $20 in the U.S. and around £20 in the UK.
