Microsoft: 720p no longer a requirement for Xbox 360

It has been revealed that Microsoft have dropped the 720p resolution requirement for its Xbox 360console. Thats according to Black Rock’s technical director David Jefferies who has been talking about the subject in a recent interview.

As reported from Eurogamer, Jefferies has stated that the reason for the drop is due to TV manufacturers such as Sony, Samsung, LG and Philips equipping 720p LCD TVs with resolutions of 1366×768 rather than true 1280×720. What this means is that the image will be upscaled no matter what, using TV hardware.

In relation to the Xbox 360, developers such as Black Rock Studios are no longer required to stick to the 720p requirement, meaning they can add more graphical features such as extra anti-aliasing by using a slightly lower resolution.

Jefferies added: “Now we are free to make the trade-off between resolution and image quality as we see fit,”

We’re not sure about you, but we never get tired of seeing pretty little unboxing pictures. We have some more pictures of those kind for you to check out now, of the newly released PS3 Slim.

Sony ‘make.believe’ coming to PS3, PSP and PSN

Fresh from the release of the PS3 Slim and plans to introduce the world to 3D television, Sony have just announced that they are to give their brand logo / slogan a makeover.
As reported from Kotaku, Sony are planning to change their logo to ‘Sony – make.believe’, to replace the old ones. You can expect to see the new logo at the end of ads, commercials and investor reports.[ama:SONY,1,new]

It is thought that the logo will apply to all their Playstation branded products, (Playstation 3, PSP and PSN) as well as their upcoming range of 3D-powered televisions.

Madden NFL 10: Price cut for Xbox 360, PS3 versions

PS3’s God of War Collection will be region free

Sony has confirmed that the upcoming God of War Collection, will be region-free, putting rumors to rest that it would be locked to certain regions. The pack contains God of War I and II and is due to be released in America before Christmas.

Sony confirmed the news to VG247, but the downside is that the European version of the Collection will not be released until early 2010. The U.S version however will contain 720p remakes of both games and will even have support for Trophies.

We say its time to start thinking about importing again eh. Bit unfair that the U.S gets all the fun, while Europeans are left twiddling their thumbs.

Hands-on with PS3’s God of War III Demo

We have a hands-on article on the upcoming PS3 exclusive God of War III for you to check out now, courtesy of NextGen Player. They were able to get their hands on the recent demo for the game, which was shown off at the Fan Expo event and have given everyone their opinions on it.

The first thing they have pointed out is the sheer beauty of the game. Running in full 1080p HD, the visuals are really stunning with NextGen comparing GOW3’s graphics to a ”classic Greek painting brought to life”.

The hands-on preview indicates that the landscapes featured in GoW3 will be around 4 times larger than those seen in in GoW2. The demo gives you the chance to participate in hack-n-slash levels which take place entirely on the back of moving Titans.

As you would expect, Kratos comes with a fresh repetoire of moves, as he is now able to grab one of his enemies and use it as a battering ram to crush the remainder of the group, in true GoW style. The article even mentions that the game will be able to display around 50 enemies on the screen at one time, impressive.

Malfunctioning PS3 Controllers and Firmware 3.0

Recently there has been a growing topic on the official PlayStation 3 forum which suggests that after installing firmware 3.0 ceramic white DualShock3 controllers suffer connection issues, this is the second reported issue that Sony have experienced since installing firmware 3.0

The connection issues are quite serious as pairing the controller with the console becomes impossible, even if plugging directly in to the console via USB, it seems that other controllers connect fine and this is an isolated issue with one particular model of PS3 controllers

A recent update on JoyStiq seems to suggest that the problem may be only occurring for “knock-off” controllers, whether Sony have decided to target these controllers is unknown at the moment, however JoyStiq have contacted Sony.

PS3 MAG Beta Codes: Sony giveaway on Twitter

For those of you who are attending PAX you will have a chance to see Sony’s Massive Action Game, however for those of you who can’t get to the event you have not been forgotten, all day MAG beta codes have been given out on Twitter.

It seems that all of these beta codes have now been given out, as 19 hours ago Sony posted this on their Twitter “Thanks everyone for participating in the MAG beta contest! Winners will have their beta code in their DM inbox”.
