The Apple iPhone 3GS has been called the hottest smartphone of the summer, but reports are saying that the phone itself may be getting too hot. Many users are saying that their iPhone 3GS handsets are overheating, with some even reporting that the heat has caused their iPhone cases to change colors.
Some reports, including one from Wired, suggest that faulty battery cells may be to blame, and even suggest that Apple may be forced to recall problematic phones.
Apple has not commented on the situation, but if the company does issue a recall, it wouldn’t be its first. Last year, Apple recalled some power adapters that shipped with the iPhone 3G, and previously, the company has recalled laptops because of defective batteries.

I’ve had my iPhone 3GS for about a week and a half now, and have not noticed it becoming uncomfortably hot, but will be watching for any signs of trouble.
